Self-Awareness
Self-awareness is the ability to recognize oneself as an individual separate from the environment and other individuals. It is having a clear perception of one's personality, strengths, weaknesses, thoughts, beliefs, motivation, and feelings. Self-awareness is the first step in creating what one want and mastering the wants.
Self-awareness keeps me grounded, attuned, and focused. Being a leader it is important to be grounded because you are able to be competent and deliberate in staying on tasks, and being attuned to their surroundings. Leaders who are capable of controlling their minds and emotions help to guide those around them to develop their own self-knowledge and success.
I've learned to become more aware of what motivates me and my decision-making process. Once I am aware about my own self being, it will help to improve my effectiveness as an individual and leader. Seminars that taught me about my own self-awareness include: distinguishing the role of a leader from who we are by Father Landon, guarding your heart and values above everything, which will determine the course of your life by Ty Schenzel , analyzing common errors in order to become a better leader by Ryan Vaca, be the duck (be calm on the surface) by identifying and eliminating your own stress by Lucas Novontny and Scott Maas, being a leader without a title, everyone has MAGIC (mastery, authenticity, guts, innovation, and communincation) by MJ Kirk, be the coffee bean: don't let the environment change you, be the change for the environment by becoming an effective leader by Rita Heise, and defining leadership without using success by thinking and exploring your surroundings, which help one to be innovative by Gerry Kuhlman.
Self-awareness is developed through practices in focusing your attention on your personality, behaviors, interests, and morals. Learning more about what you value in life and being more open-minded about yourself can help you become more aware about the person I want to be. It is important to know who you are because it will lead you to incredible things, meaning I can be a change in those around me and the world.
