#REALCREIGHTON
Prior to our assignment, Dr. Prenosil showed the class a Creighton commercial ad that was made a few years ago. After watching the ad, he showed us a newscast that was on the local news station in Omaha. The reporters were discussing the controversy over the new Creighton commercial ad that did not do so well in portraying what Creighton University is really like. Even the Creighton students and alumni gave negative feedbacks about the ad, and protest against it. The university immediately took the commercial down, and apologized for not properly and sincerely displaying what Creighton is like.
#REALCREIGHTON was our first group project assigned in our FLP English 150 class. The purpose of this assignment was to create a commercial ad that would portray the real Creighton University based on our opinions. Before creating our video, Dr. Prenosil showed us samples of commercials from different universities to see if there were any similar themes or if there was an ad that took a different approach from the rest. Watching these commercials helped each of us to come up with ideas on how we wanted to create our video ad.
Molly and I were partners for this project. We both had different ideas on how we wanted to portray what Creighton University is really like. Molly's idea was to make the video into a point of view (POV). She wanted to show what a typical day was like in the eyes and minds of the students. As for me, not only did I wanted to show the audience an average day for a college students, but I also wanted to reveal the diversity at Creighton University because there are a lot of people at Creighton that are not just from the Mid-West. Therefore, Molly and I combined both of our ideas into creating our ad. In the beginning of our video, we portrayed three students, who are from Nebraska, Japan, and Hawai'i. After the brief introduction of the students, it goes to each student's POV about their first day as a freshman in college as they walk to their first class of the day. After they are done with their first class, they all head to their next class. The three students carelessly bump into each other as they walk to their next class in Creighton Hall. They all apologized to each other, and asked one another where they were going. Surprisingly, they were all going to the same class in Creighton Hall, so they walk together down the mall. It then goes down on memory lane as it displays pictures of the three of them being friends over the years at Creighton. At the end, all the pictures comes into screen and forms into a heart with the faded-in slogan "Creighton, the place where all the pieces fit together."

I had a great time working with Molly on this video project. We got to use the skills that we have developed over the years to create our video. We were creative in figuring out how we wanted to portray the theme and message of our video, and as well as our technical skills on iMovie to combine the clips for our video. Although the project took a while to film and put together, the video came out really great. Our hard work paid off because we got a good score on it.

The Search for Meaning
Dr. Prenosil assigned our class to read Viktor Frankl's powerful memoir Man's Search for Meaning. Frankl was imprisoned in the Nazi death camps during World War II, and is one of the few people who survived the brutal hardship. During the events of the Holocaust, Frankl did not avoid hardship. He decides to cope with his experiences in the concentration camp and find meaning in it. Although he continues to fight through, it was still struggle to live in the harsh conditions, especially the worst cases of delirium. Frankl was able to search for meaning during his time at the concentration camp through work, love, and suffering.
After reading Frankl's memoir, Dr. Prenosil asked us about our meaning in life. For our second project, we had to write three essays for the paper. The first part was to talk about any argument(s) that have impeded our progress toward realizing our life's purpose. The second part was to explain whether our understanding of the argument change our opinion about it and if the understanding changed the way we plan to act in the future. The last part was to discuss what Viktor Frankl would say about our argument and what advice would he give based on our reading of Man's Search for Meaning.
For this project, I discussed a personal situation that I am facing. I talked about how lost I felt being in college. I felt like I wasn't good enough being here and that I didn't know whether I can accomplish my overall goal of being a doctor or not. What makes it worst is that I'm thousands of miles away from my home and from the people that I truly love. However, after reading Frankl' book, I felt a sense of hope that I can overcome this feeling of being lost and not good enough. I just need to find my way back by finding meaning in the things I love to do and through the people that I love to remind me of my life's purpose.
