Professionalism
Professionalism is the skill, good judgment, and polite behavior that is expected from a person who is trained to do a job well. Professionalism is based on many features such as how you dress, carry yourself, your attitude, and how you interact with others. Professionalism portrays whether you perform the tasks with genuine sincerity and honesty, and retaining professional etiquette and ethics.
Professionalism involves a lot of respect and responsibilities. Anywhere we go, we always have to follow the rules and guidelines set by those in higher authorities. By following these regulations, I am showing professionalism and commitment such as following the FLP guidelines. I need to take responsibility for what I say and do because as an adult and leader, I realize that my decisions will leave an impact. While the FLP program is mostly meant for freshmen, it is quite hard to always respect the rules because it is our first year in college and we want to try to experience new things. We need people in our lives to help guide us through these guidelines through our FLP executives and mentors, academic advisors, professors, and bosses.
I learned that it is important to be professional in formal conferences or meetings through our seminars. I also learned that keeping problems "backstage" and checking your face before going on stage is important as well.
Acting professionally gives great first impression, especially in job interviews. I'm glad to be a part of FLP because it has truly expose me to what the real world is like. FLP has taught us to be and act professionally in real-life scenarios. Therefore, that is why we are required to dress business formal, business casual, snappy casual, or casual based on the speakers and seminars. Also, we asked our speakers questions, and by doing this, it helps us learned how to be effective individuals and leaders. Not only are we exposed to the real world through seminars, but we learned how to write outstanding resume. Writing resume shows others our experiences and skills in the past, and from our background it will help us with our intended career.
Professionalism is not demonstrated through the business world, but also in our everyday lives. One FLP event that we showed professionalism was the retreats. Both Fall and Spring retreats, we exhibit professionalism by respecting people's' cultures, values, and self-being, and understanding people's stories, way of thinking, and life.
